Every year on March 1st, the disability community comes together to remember the victims of filicide – people with disabilities killed by their family members. Vigils are held on the Day of Mourning in cities around the world.

We know that along with this form of violence, disabled people face a large amount of state violence at the whim of our medical systems, carceral systems, and policing systems.

Thousands of disabled Canadians have died due to negligence in Long Term Care Homes in this pandemic. Our Federal Government, instead of responding adequately to this crisis, has fast tracked the extension of Bill C-7, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), allowing disabled people to apply for assisted suicide even if they aren't terminally ill.

We will gather in community to remember the disabled lives taken too soon, and to remember the lives that will be coerced into assisted suicide because of a lack of supports.

Details: From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM we'll gather in front of Parliament Hill at the intersection of Elgin and Wellington.

From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM we will list off the names of people who have been killed by state violence. We will also be joined by spoken word poets.
