Beats Beat The Police is organized as part of ongoing efforts to end the violence of policing. We work to end the violence done by the police and the prison system on our communities. Poor and working-class people, especially poor and working-class Black people, Indigenous people and People of Colour, as well as migrants, disabled people, sex workers and drug users, are targeted by the police for violence on a daily basis.
Beats Beat The Police has been organized in collaboration with No One Is Illegal – Ottawa, the Ottawa Panhandler's Union, the Revolutionary Student Movement, No Pasaran, Ottawa Against Fascism, and the Carleton Food Collective.
The organizers acknowledge that Ottawa, and the entire Ottawa river watershed is the traditional territory of the Algonquin nation, and that the area is being illegally occupied by the Canadian state.

More about the artists:
KING KIMBIT: The internationally-acclaimed all-around artist King Kimbit, originally Nguyễn Anh Thư, was born and raised on unceded Algonquin territory to Vietnamese boat people. She has performed and recorded in Jamaica and all over North America, sharing love and knowledge, which she believes are connected by similar roots. King has recently released her debut double-disc album LIFE LESSONS POETICALLY (with help from Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Ottawa). Life Lessons Poetically is a collection of poetry with respective musical arrangements to illustrate the lessons learned and insight gained so far in the quarter century of King's journey through intersections. Despite the inevitable presence of oppressive white supremacy and patriarchy, there is beauty in telling stories of life and death, revealing the healing and survival of women and the world.
DORESSA is a young composer and performer from Ottawa. She speaks three languages: Creole, English and French. For now, she composes and performs in English and in French. She was born on March 5th, 1996 and was inspired at a young age by her father who is also a musician/producer.
Through multiple genres of music, she associates her musical sound to R&B, Neo-Soul, with a dash of pop. Listening to great acts like India Arie, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Musiq SoulChild, and many more, Doressa finds her voice in melodic, catchy, and self-reflective tunes.
Currently, she is working on a Soul Project with two prominent acts in the city of Ottawa, Just Jamaal The Poet, as well as Jay Baskin called the ''The Wize'' in hopes to revive classic vibes of the late 90’s and early 2000s, mixed with today’s current musical flavors.

LEE REED is a Hamilton O.G. and a veteran of the Kanadian Indie music scene. For 20 years he's been stomping stages and studios, spewing his unique brand of fiery, anti-capitalist rant-hop. From mouthpiece for the legendary Warsawpack, through to his solo work REED has left a dark krylon tag across the landscape of the nation's Indie HipHop scene, and a jumbo fuel tanker on the fire of revolutionary music worldwide. REED's most recent release, 2015's "The Butcher, The Banker, The Bitumen Tanker" spent 14 weeks on the National Campus Top 10 HipHop charts, with 2 weeks in the #1 spot. Hide your bankers! Hide your cops!
