Meet The Artists:

King Kimbit Nguyễn Anh Thư, better known by her stage name, King Kimbit, is a versatile, devoted and deeply sincere Ottawa-based spoken word artist, singer and instrumentalist. King Kimbit is best known for her ability to blend gritty personal narratives with compassionate social consciousness. She articulates the spectrum of her thoughts and feelings in a way that is consistently poignant, musical and heart-felt. Her poetic work details the realities of her upbringing as the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, the truths of her social vantage point as a young racialized woman, and her stance on social issues regarding racism, de/colonization, and gender inequality. King currently coordinates Urban Legends’ Youth Speak! writing and performance workshops for teens, and is also responsible for the recent inception of Cap City Cyphers, a space for rappers across the city to unite and celebrate love and unity through Hip-Hop. At the end of 2017, King released her debut album of poetry and musical arrangements entitled “Life Lessons Poetically” featuring three piece band Black Wax, who formed to back Liverpool-based poet, Malik Al Nasir.

Lucila Al Mar Lucila Al Mar dislikes bios but loves music. This singer/songwriter has the amazing skill of being a introverted hermit by day and captivating audiences by night. This Brujas ability to move between genres, from the gnarly defiant energy of punk rock to the lushness of folk music, into the soulful resonance of an acapella song all within the same performance will have you asking yourself wtf hit me.Her performances welcome you into the precious space of her life; they welcome you to revel in the many ways human presence can be shared, and the multitude of ways music can beautify our experience of life, death and ultimately, bring us together.

Jessie Simmons Singer/Songwriter Jessie Simmons (born Alesandría-Jessica Ronica Simon) is a Haitian Canadian from Ottawa, Ontario. At the age of 3 years old, Jessie started to sing at church where she discovered a passion for music. She grew up listening to all kinds of music, looked up to numerous artists, inspiring her to want to become a performer herself. In high school, her music teacher convinced her to audition for the annual musical and from there she joined multiple talent shows, provincial festivals. The experience allowed her to discover herself and expand knowledge through different genres and appreciate versatility. Cultures, Ambition, Passion are what truly inspired her. Jessie always could simply not ignore the passion as the fusion flowed through her veins whenever she would sing. She started writing her own music and working with different artists in Ottawa. In April 2014, Jessie released her debuting single "Fly Away" produced by Tony Drumzz. She is currently working on her EP to be released later on this year.
